چکیده
Background: Although inhaled corticosteroids are taken into the bloodstream, it is unclear how much damage they do to bones. The issue crucial because 3% of people consistently use and could be doing for several decades. Method: In 195 adults (118 women) with asthmatic, aged 25 45, we examined dose-response relationship between total corticosteroid dosage bone mineralization concentration at lumbar region proximal femur. Participants had received only a little amount systemic steroids routinely used an minimum six months. Multiple regression analysis was employed evaluate corticosteroid's impact on density bones from surveys, computerized general practitioners' data, printed handwritten medical documents. Results: Treatment lasted average 6 years (0–23), baseline dose 875 mg (87–4370). Both before after adjusting influences aging gender, results showed negative correlation skeletal mineral (L2-L4), femoral neck, trochanter. An increase in by twofold linked 0•17 SD (95% CI 0•03-0•27) reduction spine minerals... neck trochanter all identical declines. relationships remained strong controlling possible influencing variables such as regular exercise previous oral, intranasal, cutaneous, injectable corticosteroids. Conclusion: This investigation shows link overall decreased asthmatic sufferers. Keywords: Corticosteroids, fracture, mineralization, inhaled, dosage, asthma, region, femur

Systemic side effects of inhaled corticosteroids in patients with asthma.
Asthma is a complex disease of the respiratory tract associated with chronic inflammation in which an intricate network of cells and cellular factors plays a major role. Asthma is one of the most common chronic diseases, with an estimated 300 million cases worldwide, imposing a considerable burden on society in morbidity, quality of life, and healthcare costs. Inhaled corticosteroids (ICSs) for...
متن کاملCross sectional investigation of the effects of inhaled corticosteroids on bone density and bone metabolism in patients with asthma.
BACKGROUND Bone mineral density has been reduced in patients with asthma taking inhaled corticosteroids in some cross sectional studies and this could be important if treatment is continued for several decades. The possibility of confounding by age, menopausal status, physical activity and, especially, past oral steroid use has not been excluded in most studies. The present study was designed t...
متن کاملInhaled corticosteroids in children with persistent asthma: effects on growth.
BACKGROUND Treatment guidelines for asthma recommend inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) as first-line therapy for children with persistent asthma. Although ICS treatment is generally considered safe in children, the potential systemic adverse effects related to regular use of these drugs have been and continue to be a matter of concern, especially the effects on linear growth. OBJECTIVES To assess...
متن کاملInhaled corticosteroids: effects on the airway vasculature in bronchial asthma.
Inhaled corticosteroids suppress airway inflammation and components of airway remodelling in bronchial asthma. In the tracheobronchial (airway) vasculature, these include the inhibition of inflammatory hyperperfusion, microvascular hyperpermeability, mucosal oedema formation, and the formation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis). Corticosteroids are now known to exert their effects on the airwa...
متن کاملInfluence of Obesity on Bone Mineral Density in Postmenopausal Asthma Patients Undergoing Treatment with Inhaled Corticosteroids
OBJECTIVES The etiology of osteoporosis in asthma is complex as various factors contribute to its pathogenesis. The purpose of our study was to investigate the effects of obesity and inhaled steroids, as well as the severity and duration of asthma, on osteoporosis in postmenopausal asthma patients as compared to healthy controls. METHODS A total of 46 patients with asthma and 60 healthy femal...
